Special Projects...
The Legacy for Children Foundation's Special Projects promote public awareness and education about the problem of Child Abuse in our society.
The Legacy for Children Foundation has provided leadership for coalitions of child care services and agencies since 1997. We serve on the Boards of the State of Ohio Prevention Partners Leadership Group, The Center for Effective Discipline and Prevent Child Abuse Ohio. The Foundation supports these partnerships and other non-profits by broadcasting public service announcements on television and radio at the local and national levels. These campaigns provide educational information about child abuse and provide resources about services that are available to families and the public.
The purpose of these coalitions relates to the Foundation's mission to advocate for abused and neglected children through education, and heightened public awareness. Our partnership with CTV Media, Inc., has aired millions of dollars worth of public service announcements for Heifer International, Ohio Parents for a Drug Free Youth, Prevent Child Abuse Ohio, and The Center for Effective Discipline.
During 2005 data from the Ohio Department of Human Services indicates that 93,250 cases of child abuse and neglect were reported in Ohio. 5,165 cases were reported in Franklin County during that time, which is an average rate of 430 reports each month. We are encouraged that the number of reported cases is declining and the Foundation remains deeply committed to protecting the children of Ohio through our support of programs that further helping children and families in crises.
